We have been back to Woodlands Primary School speaking to the children of Primary 4 about the Small Blue butterfly. Woodlands Primary School are the first school in Scotland to champion the Small Blue and Cllr Fairweather is the first Councillor Champion. The Small Blue is a priority species in Scotland due to it's severe decline in recent years. In Angus we do have a small population along the coast at Barry Buddon and Elliot so we have been planting Kideny Vetch, it's sole food plant to create a food corridor to help it extend it's feeding and breeding ground. The children are very interested and enthusiatic about playing a part in helping to promote the Small Blue and raise awarenss about it's plight. They are currently working on a couple of projects for Small Blue week in June so watch this space.
