Small Blue Meeting
Today, Anne and I joined experts in Dundee to discuss the rare Small Blue butterfly which is a priority species. The butterfly is in decline and we spent the morning looking at maps of where it's sole food source, Kidney Vetch was found last year. In East Haven we have planted patches of Kidney Vetch to help create a food corridor for the Small Blue which only flies about 20 metres. We will plant more this year between East Haven and Elliot to help fill gaps. Last year we linked up with a large area of Kidney Vetch at Carnoustie Golf links. We also discussed plans for Small Blue week which falls between 1 and 10 June this year. Woodlands Primary school champion the Small Blue so we will work with the children between now and June to raise awareness and prepare for the big week in honour of this small butterfly.
