Preparing for Britain in Bloom
Preparations are underway for the Britain in Bloom finals and today we travelled up to Aberdeen for a 'get together' with the other finalists organised by Beautiful Scotland. It is only four years since East Haven first dipped a toe in the water and entered the Beautiful Scotland competition achieving a SilverGilt in 2014. It is hard to believe that we have since become Gold medal winners and are now representing Scotland in the UK finals. Although a great honour it is also rather daunting so it was really helpful to receive advice and support from others who have experience of competing at this level. Like the Beautiful Scotland competition we will be judged on key criteria across the areas of Horticultural practice, Environmental responsibility and Community participation. However, we have to raise our game so it was useful to hear how other groups have achieved success in these areas. We were also able to ask questions of Britain in Bloom judges Bill Ronald and Keith Jackson. By the end of the day we were feeling much more confident and better prepared for the work ahead of us over the next few months. To top off a great day we were treated to a tour of the Winter Gardens in Duthie Park which are absolutely stunning and well worth a visit to Aberdeen.
