East Haven Together has sponsored one of the hanging baskets in the town to show our appreciation to all those involved in Colourful Carnoustie. The baskets of gold coloured begonias are stunning and make a real impact along the high street. Colourful Carnoustie also enter the Beautiful Scotland competition and some people have assumed that this places us in competition with each other. However, this is far from the case as the Beautiful Scotland competition is based on a set of criteria which each area is judged against with awards being made on merit rather than competition with another area. Therefore, one is really looking to improve on their own achievements from the previous year rather than competing against another area. We actively support one another and we have several volunteers from Carnoustie helping out in East Haven. Likewise, we also litter pick and do what we can to show our support in the town. There are a few discretionary awards which an area can ask to be considered for and this year, East Haven has asked to be considered once again for the VisitScotland Tourism award and also the Sustainability award. At the end of the day, the competition is not what is important but at the same time it does provide motivation to get out there and make a difference.
