Gregor Beattie started playing cornet at the age of nine under the tuition of Michael Robertson in the excellent youth brass scene in Carnoustie. He became a member of the Arbroath Instrumental Band at the age of twelve and
in the same year joined the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland, which he was a part of for ten years.
By the age of sixteen, Gregor decided he wanted to take more seriously and make it his career. He successfully
auditioned for the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Junior Academy and was later accepted into the RSAMD (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) to study a BMus Honours degree on classical trumpet.
his seven years studying, Gregor has gone from strength to strength as a freelancing musician and has also found a passion for composition and arranging for brass. Music has led Gregor abroad for many exciting performances in places such as Malta, Germany,
Austria, Japan, Ireland and this summer he will be playing in Brazil with the RCS 10 piece brass group and Scottish traditional music students. He has had compositions published along with plans to do many more and recently arranged one of Phil Cunningham’s
folk melodies for brass which has been played in Glasgow, Malta, Germany and will be played in the trip to Brazil.
Gregor has been working hard on his composition for Easthaven which is now complete and is looking
forward to the event when it will be premiered.
